The Formula

How ROAS is calculated

ROAS = Revenue Generated ÷ Advertising Spend

ROAS Percentage = ROAS × 100

$10,000 ad spend

$40,000 revenue

$40,000 ÷ $10,000 = 4.00x ROAS

A 4.00x ROAS means $4 in attributed revenue was generated for every $1 spent on advertising.

Example
Advertising Spend$5,000
Revenue Generated$20,000
Calculation$20,000 ÷ $5,000
4.00x ROAS

For every $1 spent on advertising, the campaign generated $4 in attributed revenue. This is an illustrative example, not a BUZZ client result.

Understanding the Metric

What does ROAS tell you?

ROAS provides a ratio between advertising spend and attributed revenue. It can help marketers compare campaign performance, evaluate advertising efficiency, monitor changes over time, and support budget and optimization discussions.

There is no universally "good" ROAS. An appropriate target depends on factors such as gross margin, operating costs, customer acquisition costs, customer lifetime value, attribution model, business model and campaign objective.

ROAS is one piece of the performance picture.

Revenue ÷ Ad Spend

ROAS

Revenue generated relative to advertising spend.

Ad Spend ÷ Conversions

CPA

Cost required to acquire a conversion or customer, depending on the defined conversion.

CAC

Customer acquisition cost. Can include broader acquisition costs beyond media spend depending on how the business defines CAC.

ROI

A broader profitability-oriented measure that can account for costs beyond advertising spend.

ROAS is useful. It is not the whole story.

ROAS alone does not show these parts of the picture:

Profit Margin

Revenue does not equal profitability once costs are factored in.

Operating Expenses

Costs beyond media spend are not reflected in this ratio.

Customer Lifetime Value

A single-purchase ROAS may understate long-term customer value.

Organic Contribution

Some revenue may be influenced by channels beyond paid media.

Incrementality

ROAS doesn't show whether the revenue would have happened anyway.

Attribution Accuracy

Different attribution models can produce different reported ROAS.

Use ROAS alongside the metrics that matter for your business model and campaign objective.

A note on attribution

ROAS depends on how revenue is attributed to advertising. Different platforms and analytics systems can use different attribution methods, so reported ROAS may vary between sources. This calculator performs the arithmetic only; it does not validate or adjust your underlying attribution data.

Frequently asked questions.

ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) is revenue generated from advertising divided by advertising spend.
ROAS = Revenue ÷ Advertising Spend. For example, $10,000 revenue ÷ $2,500 advertising spend = 4.00x ROAS.
A 4x ROAS means $4 in attributed revenue was generated for every $1 spent on advertising. This does not mean a 4x profit, since it doesn't account for other costs.
No. ROAS specifically relates advertising spend to attributed revenue, while ROI is a broader return measure that can account for additional costs depending on the formula being used.
There is no universal benchmark. An appropriate target depends on margins, operating costs, customer lifetime value, business model, campaign objective and attribution method.
Not in this calculator. It uses only Revenue Generated ÷ Advertising Spend. Other costs should be considered separately when evaluating profitability.
No. The currency selector changes how values are displayed. It does not convert USD into EUR, INR or other currencies.
